Houston Texans: Kilian Zierer with strong debut

Kilian Zierer was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Houston Texans in the spring. Now he has a chance to earn a spot on the Texans squad in the preseason

In Week 1 of the preseason, Munich native Kilian Zierer played his first NFL game with the New England Patriots, lining up at left tackle on over 80% of the Texans’ offensive snaps.

Zierer was thus the player with the most playing time in the Texans’ offence. It was a promising debut, as the German did not allow a sack and only one QB pressure.

On the Houston Texans’ depth chart, the 23-year-old is listed as the second right tackle, and in his last college season he was a regular for the Auburn Tigers at the left tackle position.

That flexibility could give him a decided advantage. “There’s going to be a lot of rotation with our offensive line,” Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said. “That’s the time we need to see which players can be used at multiple positions.”

“Because when you go into the season and you have a limited number of players on the roster, it’s very comforting to have players that are versatile and flexible. “

Zierer: Next German in the NFL?

In the next two preseason games, Zierer will have the chance to prove his abilities once again to earn a spot on the Texans’ 53-man roster.

While Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jakob Johnson already have their spots on the regular-season roster locked up, and Equanimeous St. Brown should also make the Bears’ squad as expected, Colts cornerback Marcel Dabo still has to fight for a spot on the final roster.

Washington Commanders’ David Bada suffered a torn triceps during training camp and has been placed on the Injured Reserve List for the time being.
