The Houston Texans are continuing to tinker with their squad for the 2024 season. In Ka’imi Fairbairn, the Texans have been able to retain a key player and make the Hawaiian one of the highest-paid kickers in the NFL.
Traditionally, before free agency is the time when teams try everything they can to keep their top performers with expiring contracts.
After the Houston Texans were able to tie tight end Dalton Schultz to them for another three years, the next important building block has now signed: kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn has also extended his contract in Houston, also for three years.
He can look forward to a tidy payday. As insider Ian Rapoport reports, the Hawaiian will earn 15.9 million dollars over three years, or 5.3 million per season. This makes him one of the highest earners in his position.
In a league comparison, this puts him in fourth place, only behind Justin Tucker (six million dollars), Matt Gay (5.6 million dollars) and Graham Gano (5.5 million dollars).
Fairbairn, whose full first name is John Christian Kaʻiminoeauloamekaʻikeokekumupa, hit 26 of his 27 field goal attempts last season and 21 of his 22 extra points in the regular season. He delivered his best NFL year.
He has been the Texans’ starting kicker since 2017.
