Houston Texans induct J.J. Watt into “Ring of Honor”

J.J. Watt will receive a great honour: The pass rusher, who ended his career this spring, will be inducted into the so-called “Ring of Honor” by the Houston Texans.

The Houston Texans are the youngest team in the NFL. The franchise has only been around since 2002. Accordingly, there have not been many players who have made a lasting mark on it. One of them, however, is pass rusher J.J. Watt.

As the Texans announced, the defensive end will be included in the so-called “Ring of Honor”. It’s where almost every team immortalizes players in the stadium circuit who have done special things for the organization.

Watt third name in Texans “Ring of Honor “

“Everybody knows how much J.J. means to us. What he has done for the Texans and the city of Houston cannot be measured,” said the McNair family of owners.

Not only did Justin James, Watt’s real first name, collect over 100 sacks for the team, during Hurricane Harvey and the subsequent flooding in 2017, he raised over $40 million for those affected with a campaign and pitched in with cleanup efforts himself.

With the Texans, Watt was named Defensive Player of the Year three times and was All-Pro five times. In 2021, the Texans released him, but the separation was on good and mutual terms.

The 34-year-old, who was drafted in 2011, is only the third name in the Texans’ “Ring of Honor” after wide receiver Andre Johnson and Robert McNair, the franchise’s founder. The ceremony will take place in week four, at the home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, with Watt’s brothers Derek and T.J. playing.
