Frank Reich speaks out about firing from Indianapolis Colts: ‘It hurts’

Frank Reich has spoken out about his dismissal from the Indianapolis Colts and hopes to be back as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts soon

Munich – Frank Reich is no longer the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts as of Monday morning. After his team lost its third game in a row against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday and has just two wins after nine games, Colts owner Jim Irsay pulled the ripcord.

In an interview with “Fox 59” Reich spoke out about his release. “There’s disappointment and pain,” he said. “It hurts. It hurts when it happens in the middle of the season. But I understand the business side of things. I have a lot of respect for Mr Irsay and I’ve learned to trust his instincts and his knowledge of the game. I just know he’s doing what he thinks is best for the team.”

Reich leaves Indianapolis in his fourth season with a 41-35-1 record. In 2018 he led the team to the 2nd round of the playoffs, and in 2020 they still made it to the Wild Card Round. Last season, the Colts missed the playoffs with a record of nine wins and eight losses. Reich regrets that his Colts failed to win the AFC South and were never a serious Super Bowl contender.

Reich: “I gave my soul for the job “

Despite that, he leaves the Colts with a good feeling: “I can live with that. I gave my heart and soul to the job, to the guys, to everything I did there. I didn’t take anything for granted. “

Reich is now using the time off to take a short-term trip to North Carolina with his wife Linda to visit his children and grandchildren. He can well imagine taking on a new role again in the short term: “I think you just keep all your options open. Of course, my desire is to be a head coach again. I love the game. I love everything about the game, so I’m keeping all my options open. “
