Deshaun Watson will miss the first six games of the new NFL season. The Cleveland Browns still plan to let him play in the first preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars – just like many other starters.
Munich – Deshaun Watson will play his first game for the Cleveland Browns. The franchise announced that the quarterback will be the starting quarterback in the first preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars (starting at 1:00 a.m. Saturday night CEST). The Browns are likely to let their starters take the field in general.
Watson is currently suspended for the first six games of the regular season, but the NFL appealed the decision a week ago. The league reportedly wants to suspend the quarterback for at least the entire 2022 season.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell explained the league’s decision by saying that Watson had been proven to have acted in violation of the personal conduct policy on multiple occasions. Goodell appointed former New Jersey Attorney General Peter C. Harvey to handle the appeal.
There is no timetable yet for a possible new verdict.
Jacoby Brissett is the Watson replacement
Nevertheless, Watson is now expected to play for the Browns in the preseason. Most recently, he shared first-team offensive plays with backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett during training camp
The 29-year-old will serve as the Browns’ playmaker for the first six weeks of the new season.
