Kareem Jackson was originally suspended for four games by the NFL for unnecessary hardship. The Denver Broncos safety appealed – successfully.
The suspension of Kareem Jackson of the Denver Broncos has been reduced from four to two games. The Denver Broncos safety was ejected for hitting Green Bay Packers tight end Luke Musgrave in Sunday’s 19-17 win.
It was the second time this season. He was previously forced off the field early in Week 2 after a hit against Logan Thomas of the Washington Commanders. The pass defender appealed – successfully. The suspension was cut in half.
In all, Jackson collected four fines in 2023 for illegal hits, and he has since accumulated about $90,000. The fine was not reduced.
“On the play in question, you delivered a violent blow to the head/neck area of a defenseless receiver when you had time and space to avoid such contact. You could have made contact with your opponent within the rules, but chose not to,” Jon Runyan, NFL vice president of football operations, wrote in a letter to Jackson.
Broncos coach Sean Payton said Monday that the team will continue to work with him to avoid future violations.
Jackson will miss Denver in the coming weeks against the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills. In seven games this season, he has two interceptions, three passes defensed and 42 tackles.
