Denver Broncos: Russell Wilson regrets dismissal of Nathaniel Hackett

At the beginning of this week, Nathaniel Hackett was fired as head coach of the Denver Broncos after only 15 games. Now, for the first time, quarterback Russell Wilson is also speaking out on the personnel matter – and expressing his regrets.

It was actually clear after just a few weeks that the relationship between Nathaniel Hackett and the Denver Broncos would not last long.

It started as early as week one, when the Broncos wasted 35 seconds in a two-minute drill at the Seattle Seahawks, only to attempt a 64-yard field goal that missed.

After a series of more than questionable coaching decisions as well as performances, Hackett was fired earlier this week.

Wilson: “Wish I had played better “

At the obligatory post-practice media round, Wilson commented for the first time on his sacked head coach. “To be honest, I wish I would have played better for him as well,” the 34-year-old said.

“If I had played at the level I have already shown, then he would possibly still be here,” he added.

Nevertheless, the 2013 Super Bowl champion is already looking ahead – and continues to aim high. “My mission remains the same: bring Super Bowls to Denver. I know what I’m capable of and I know it was significantly too little this year.”

The Broncos, with a record of 4-11 this season, have no chance of making the playoffs. On Sunday, Denver travels to the Kansas City Chiefs with interim coach Jerry Rosburg.
