The Denver Broncos signed Mike McGlinchey to a mega contract this offseason. Now the rookie admits he didn’t like Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson
In the offseason, the Denver Broncos outfitted right tackle Mike McGlinchey with a five-year, $87.5 million contract. The long-time 49ers pro is now being paid to protect his new quarterback Russell Wilson. So the man the tackle now admitted he “didn’t like” when they dueled in the NFC West. Wilson was still playing for the Seattle Seahawks at the time.
“For the longest time, I really couldn’t stand Russell because he beat us so many times,” McGlinchey told “NFL.com. “
McGlinchey couldn’t stand Russell Wilson
4-17 – the San Francisco 49ers’ record against Russell Wilson reads devastating. So it’s no wonder that the new Bronco didn’t like his new playmaker too much in the past.
Now, however, the tide has turned and the right tackle is quite impressed with Wilson. “Being in the locker room with him and being in the huddle with him was great,” he explained.
He continued, “Russ is a workhorse first and foremost. There’s nobody in this building that works harder than him. He’s addicted to this game and to being great. That rubs off on a lot of people. And there’s a reason he’s so successful in this league.”
McGlinchey continued, “I’m looking forward to what we can all do together because I think with Coach, with Russ and with the talent we have on this team, we have a really good chance to help Russ have even greater success than he’s had. “
Broncos hope for better season
With Wilson’s first season in Denver in mind, that shouldn’t be too hard, as this past season was one to forget for the Broncos and Wilson in particular.
The signal caller was brought to Denver in a spectacular trade, including high expectations. But nothing came of it. At the end of the season, the Broncos had a record of only five wins and twelve losses, finished last in the AFC West, and Head Coach Nathaniel Hackett was fired. Wilson’s performance also left much to be desired.
