Nathaniel Hackett, the new head coach of the Denver Broncos, has not been convincing so far. Now the franchise is giving him an assistant to help him with his decision making.
Munich – The Denver Broncos had somehow imagined a different start to the season. In their first game against the Seattle Seahawks they lost 16:17 – one week later they won 16:9 against the Houston Texans, but it was by no means convincing.
Especially the new head coach Nathaniel Hackett stood out with several questionable decisions in terms of game management. In order for the former offensive coordinator of the Green Bay Packers to make better decisions in the future, the franchise has now put an assistant at his side.
According to several US media reports, Jerry Rosburg will be in the stadium as a senior assistant during games and advise Hackett on his decisions.
The 66-year-old, who spent 11 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens from 2008 to 2018, has already been in Denver all week taking part in the training sessions. He will make his debut against the San Francisco 49ers in the Sunday Night Game of the NFL’s third day of play.
Hackett can’t convince yet
Hackett had assembled a relatively inexperienced coaching staff in his first year as head coach. Questions have already been raised about whether the staff is even up to the task.
One situation in particular caused question marks: When they let the clock run down before attempting a 64-yard field goal in their season-opening loss to the Seahawks just before the end.
Already in week two, Broncos fans were so frustrated with the team’s pace that they counted down the seconds left on the play clock loudly to help the offence avoid delay-of-game penalties.
