West New York – Former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is joining the Denver Broncos ownership group. The National Football League (NFL) franchise announced on Monday that the 67-year-old is joining the group led by the Walton-Penner family, which bought the Broncos last month for a record $4.65 billion.
“I spent a lot of my younger years in Denver, so it’s a unique adventure and a great opportunity to combine my love of the game with my love of this great city and team,” said Rice, who moved to Denver at the age of 12 and went to university there. She served as secretary of state under George W. Bush from 2005 to 2009.
“A big win for the Broncos “
“Rice is a highly respected politician, accomplished academic and business leader. She is known as a passionate and knowledgeable football fan who has worked to make the sport stronger and better,” Rob Walton said in a statement. “Her unique experience and exceptional judgment will be a great asset to our group and the Broncos organization.”
Currently, the deal is still being reviewed by NFL club owners, with at least 24 of 32 needing to approve.
