Tight end Dawson Knox is currently delivering like never before with the Buffalo Bills. Not too long ago, the 24-year-old was laughed at, but now his quarterback is gushing.
Munich – During the Buffalo Bills’ game against the Houston Texans, Dawson Knox was in the spotlight in more ways than one.
After a failed pass to Bills receiver Stefon Diggs, the tight end went down on the sideline after being shoved by Texans safety Lonnie Johnson. The action, which earned Houston a 15-yard penalty, caused a stir, especially among the Bills’ social media team.
It was speculated that the 24-year-old might have copied his dramatic fall from football. Knox neither denied nor confirmed this assumption. He wrote via Twitter that he does indeed watch football, but then mischievously asked: “Didn’t you like that one? “
Knox and Gronk with most touchdowns
The small skirmish in the social networks, however, remained only a side note due to the sporting performance of the pass receiver. In the 40-0 win over the Texans, the 24-year-old impressed with one thing above all: effectiveness.
Quarterback Josh Allen threw at him eight times and he caught five balls for a total of 37 yards. Five catches alone are not a particularly exciting statistic, had he not also scored two touchdowns in the process.
After four NFL games, the tight end is in better shape than ever before. He has already scored four touchdowns, which puts him in a tie with Bucs tight end Rob Gronkowski for the league lead at his position. He is also tied with Stefon Diggs and Cole Beasley among Bills pass receivers with the most targets. 29 yards in the redzone is also a team-best.
Allen praises Bills tight end
“Whether it’s blocking, catching balls, running routes – he just always finds a way to be playable,” his quarterback Josh Allen praised him on “ESPN. “I have the utmost confidence in this guy right here, and he’s going to get better and better.”
That the franchise’s playmaker would speak so positively about Knox was hardly conceivable not so long ago. As recently as June, for example, jokes were being made about the tight end, who had teamed up with a vision specialist to improve his skills.
In his first two NFL seasons, the former third-round pick was repeatedly criticised for dropping an unusual number of balls. To improve his hand-eye coordination, he enlisted the help of a vision specialist before the season – and it seems to have paid off. As a result, Knox has only dropped one ball so far this season.
Knox wants to focus on himself
“There’s always going to be noise from the outside when it comes to trades or signing free agents,” the 24-year-old said in regards to the rumours of a possible departure from Buffalo.
“But we have to focus on ourselves. I have to focus on myself and I have to get better every day. As soon as I start worrying about what people are saying about the tight end position or our offense, I start losing focus. “
