Defensive end Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns answered reporters’ questions in a media roundtable on Wednesday. He mainly commented on the situation surrounding his quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Deshaun Watson, which is currently preoccupying the media.
Munich/Cleveland – They are probably the two most defining topics in the NFL.
What will become of Baker Mayfield and what will happen to Deshaun Watson? One has a question mark behind it athletically, the other legally.
Cleveland Browns team captain and All Pro defensive end Myles Garrett had his say on both on Wednesday.
Garrett on Mayfield: “When he’s healthy, he can do great things “
On the sidelines of a presser at the Browns’ Organized Team Activities (OTA), Garrett said it’s “normal” for “players to come and go. “
In doing so, he broke a lance for the scolded 2018 first overall pick. “When he’s been healthy, he’s played well. Then he can do great things. He just needs to find a niche and prove himself. I wish him nothing but the best,” said Garrett, who was the first pick in the draft a year before Mayfield.
Mayfield, whose fluctuating performance has been the topic of discussion for months, is not currently at the Browns’ voluntary workouts. Earning $19 million guaranteed in his final year of his contract, Cleveland officials were already in favour of a trade for the 27-year-old, but no trade partner has yet been found.
Garrett on Watson: “I’m not the judge here “
The three-time Pro Bowler also had a few words about his future quarterback, Deshaun Watson. When asked about the charges against Watson, Garrett deflected. “I have nothing to do with that.”
He then delved a little deeper: “I don’t know what happened and neither do you. Nobody in this room knows,” he stood protectively in front of his teammate.
“I can’t pick a side based on what I hear, I’m not the judge here. I’m personally getting to know him better every day and he’s a good character,” Garrett further stated.
If and when Watson will receive a suspension from playing in the NFL is still completely open.
