Mourning at the Cleveland Browns. One of their former running backs has died in a car accident
Sad news from the NFL. The former running back of the Cleveland Browns, Benjamin “Ben” Gay, has died at the age of 44 in a car accident in the US state of Colorado, according to several US media outlets.
The Houston native was a legend at Spring High School, where he rushed for 2,217 yards and 21 touchdowns as a senior. He signed with the Browns in July 2001 and played for the team the following season. Gay appeared in all 16 games.
In the first half of the season he was used on special teams, but this changed in the second half. He scored his only touchdown in the NFL in the game against the Ravens.
In the 2022 offseason, Gay was waived and signed with the Indianapolis Colts. After failing to make the cut in training camp, he signed for Edmonton in the Canadian Football League.
After his career ended, he worked as a welder. Gay is survived by his wife and three children.
