Following his touchdown in Week 18, Joe Mixon of the Cincinnati Bengals flipped a coin. The reference to NFL playoff rules after the Bills-Bengals game-wrecker in Week 17 is not going down well with the league. The league has now penalised the running back.
After Joe Mixon found his way into the end zone against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 18, the Cincinnati Bengals running back celebrated with a coin flip celebration.
Mixon has now been punished by the NFL for this, as he announced on his Twitter profile. There he published a letter from the league ordering him to pay 13,261 US dollars. The player himself seems amused by the fine.
“Since you’re all into the coin flip, let’s do this. Let’s flip a coin to pay this crazy fine for expressing my opinion. If it’s heads, I’ll pay. If it’s tails, Roger G will pay the money to the Boys and Girls Club of Cincinnati,” the 26-year-old wrote in response.
NFL playoffs: Cincinnati Bengals face Baltimore Ravens again
Background of the penalty is this: after the game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills in Week 17 was called off due to the cardiac arrest of Bills safety Damar Hamlin, the NFL announced adjustments regarding playoff regulations.
So, under certain circumstances, a coin toss could come into play to decide home field. This ruling caused a stir within the Cincinnati Bengals ranks, with head coach Zac Taylor also expressing less than enthusiasm.
@NFL since y’all all about the coin flipping let’s do this. Let’s have a coin toss to pay this crazy fine for expressing myself. If it’s heads I’ll pay. If it’s tails Roger G pay the money to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Cincinnati. AllAboutTheKids WhoDey pic.twitter.com/XuG9ohXkT2
