Quarterback Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills is known for his aggressive style of play. This includes putting his shoulder down and running over defenders. However, he now wants to change that.
The Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen has been called a modern-day Cam Newton several times in recent years.
Rightfully so, the parallels to the former MVP are more than visible: Allen is big, massive, hard to bring down and – probably the biggest parallel – he doesn’t shy away from opponent contact like Cam once did.
However, while Newton jumped head first into opponents until the end, Allen is now looking to change his style of play.
Allen wants to change: “Can’t go on like this “
He announced in a media roundtable on Tuesday. “It sounds crazy, but it’s not like I’m getting any younger,” said Allen, who is entering his sixth year.
“I can’t go on like this. It feels like I can, but I have to learn to adapt and change,” the Bills quarterback said. “I can’t keep looking for two extra yards. Go down and slide. It’s worked so far, but eventually it won’t.
The Bills’ No. 17 doesn’t see himself as a “quarterback” so much as a playmaking football player. “That’s always been my mindset,” Allen explains.
Right now, though, he’s not looking to change his approach. “At some point I’ll have to, but I don’t know when yet. My body will tell me, I guess,” the playmaker says with a grin.
