Baltimore/Munich – The Baltimore Ravens have hired an old acquaintance as defensive coordinator.
The franchise announced that Mike Macdonald will take over as the Ravens’ defensive coordinator. Macdonald last worked at the University of Michigan in the same position. Piquant: Jim Harbaugh, younger brother of Ravens coach John Harbaugh, is the head coach there.
But Macdonald was already a part of the Ravens franchise before his one-year trip to college. He joined the Maryland team in 2014 and took over as linebackers coach for three years in the interim. With the departure of Wink Martindale, Macdonald now gets the defensive coordinator job.
Harbaugh praises new defensive coordinator
“Mike has continued to prove himself, especially last year when he ran one of the best defenses in the country. He knows our system and knows the importance of defense to us,” Coach Harbaugh said in a statement about Macdonald’s signing.
Michigan allowed 100 fewer yards per game last season, after Macdonald took over, than the season before.
