Baltimore Ravens: Lamar Jackson apparently gets new playing identity

After his contract extension with the Baltimore Ravens, Lamar Jackson starts a new phase of his career. The first few weeks with new offensive coordinator Todd Monken have apparently been promising

Quarterback Lamar Jackson and Todd Monken, the Baltimore Ravens’ new offensive coordinator, have apparently found chemistry in the first few weeks of working together.

As “ESPN” reports, the 26-year-old is taken with the new system of play, he even “loves” it. Monken is relying on Jackson to take more responsibility for himself and to make more changes at the line of scrimmage.

And the identity of the quarterback, which until now has mostly consisted of spectacular runs, could also change. Monken’s focus, for example, is said to be on leaving the quarterback in the pocket more often and stepping up the passing game.

Less spectacle for Baltimore Ravens

Monken himself, who replaced Greg Roman after last season, has already announced that the focus will be less on spectacle and more on clean execution of plays.

“Coolness is out, execution is in,” Monken told reporters last week. “When we’re out there on the field, it’s not about being cool. It’s about preparation, training and you fighting like crazy during the week. And on game day, it has to come to life,” he said.

Jackson enters a new phase of his career in the 2023 season. After a long and tough wrangling, the Ravens and the quarterback agreed on a new five-year contract worth a total of 260 million dollars.
