For the first time since the trade for Deshaun Watson, quarterback Baker Mayfield has spoken out about his current situation with the Cleveland Browns. Speaking on the “YNK” podcast, the former number one pick was particularly critical of the front office’s conduct.
Munich – Officially, quarterback Baker Mayfield is still a part of the Cleveland Browns, but mentally he has already closed the chapter.
In the podcast “YNK” the 26-year-old spoke for the first time about the current situation. The background is the trade of the Browns for Deshaun Watson, who will be the starter in Cleveland from now on.
“The front office has not been transparent with me. I feel it’s very disrespectful – 100 percent,” the former number one pick said. He has been through many ups and downs in the past four years, he said. He said he would like to see more stability in his coming years.
Mayfield is currently frequently linked to the Seattle Seahawks. The Carolina Panthers or Houston Texans are also considered candidates.
Ride the roller coaster
“I have no idea where the next stop will be, but I’m not nervous either. The last few years have toughened me up,” Mayfield said.
As a rookie, he took Browns fans’ hearts by storm, setting the then-record for most touchdown passes (27) by a rookie. After that, his career resembled a rollercoaster ride. In his third season, he experienced his peak so far, setting career bests in passing yards, touchdowns and interceptions (only nine).
Injuries overshadowed his past season. The accompanying drop in performance ultimately caused the Browns to look elsewhere.
