Fired Miami Dolphins football coach Brian Flores is aware of the risk after his lawsuit against the NFL and three teams.
Miami/Munich- Football coach Brian Flores, fired from the Miami Dolphins, is aware of the risk to his coaching career after his lawsuit against the NFL and three teams. “I know the risk, and yes, it was a difficult decision. I hesitated for a long time,” he said in an interview with “CBS” on Wednesday.
Even though he loves coaching and wants to help young people “realise their potential and become the best players they can be,” he said his lawsuit was a major concern for him. “We are at a crossroads. Either we continue like this or we take a different direction and make real changes,” he continued.
Case is set to be a class action
Flores (40) had filed his lawsuit in a New York state district court on Tuesday. The league is “in some ways racially segregated and run like a plantation,” the indictment said: “The 32 team owners – none of them black – profit significantly from the work of NFL players, 70 percent of whom are black.”
In addition to his former club, the black coach is also taking on the New York Giants and the Denver Broncos, where he had been a candidate but did not get the job. The case is a class action. The NFL immediately defended itself against the “unfounded” accusations of the long-time scout of the New England Patriots.
Dolphins owner Ross defends himself against allegations
Parts of his allegations are also directed at Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross. Flores claims that the latter, offered to pay him an extra $100,000 per loss during the 2019 season because Ross wanted the Dolphins to lose enough games to secure the top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The 81-year-old owner is now fighting back, describing the allegations as “false, malicious and defamatory.”
In a statement, he said, “I am a man of honour and integrity. We are aware that there are media reports that the NFL intends to investigate his allegations and we will cooperate fully. I welcome this investigation and stand ready to defend my personal integrity and the integrity and values of the entire Miami Dolphins organisation against these unfounded, unfair and disparaging allegations. “
