Aaron Rodgers: Why the trade with the New York Jets will go through on 28 April

Many indications are that the monster trade for quarterback Aaron Rodgers between the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets will happen during the second round of the draft.

It’s an old rule in business that a good merchant doesn’t pay a bill until the last day of the deadline.

And it looks like the Green Bay Packers are applying that business know-how to the targeted trade of Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets.

Which would mean the highly anticipated blockbuster deal won’t go through until the second day of the NFL draft on April 28.

Because the package the Packers will receive in return for star quarterback Rodgers likely includes at least one, maybe both, of the Jets’ second-round picks in this draft.

The first-round pick – at least this year – appears unlikely, according to numerous experts.

Rodgers trade could happen while pick is on the clock

The Jets currently own picks 42 – trade of Elijah Moore to the Cleveland Browns – and 43 in the second round of the draft.

Normally with picks of this magnitude, it doesn’t make sense to trade until the pick is actually on the clock.

Because only then is it clear which players are actually available. Moreover, one’s draft strategy remains opaque to the competition. According to “ProFootballTalk” it would even be a surprise if the Packers and Jets did not finalise the trade during the draft.

So on 28 April, high tension is the order of the day. Because with the 42nd pick in this year’s draft, much more could happen than just a rookie being drafted by the New York Jets.
