Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has spoken out again about a possible comeback this season, making it dependent on two main factors.
No one would have thought after week one that star quarterback Aaron Rodgers would be talking about making his comeback at this point in the season. In his first game, Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon – usually a season-ending injury.
On Pat McAfee’s podcast, the 39-year-old has now spoken about a possible comeback and makes a return this season dependent on two key factors.
“The most important thing is health,” said Rodgers. Unsurprisingly, the multiple NFL MVP must of course be physically fit. But he is making good progress and it looks as if he could make a comeback around Christmas time.
New York Jets: Realistic playoff chances?
“We still have to be in the race,” Rodgers said of the second condition. The former Packers star is referring to the playoff chances of the New York Jets, who are 4-7 after losing to the Miami Dolphins.
So things aren’t exactly looking rosy for the Jets and Rodgers. They need to win at least two of the three games between now and Christmas. Three wins would be better, of course. But a win at the Miami Dolphins seems unlikely.
It remains to be seen whether the Jets and Rodgers want to take a comeback risk. It seems more likely anyway that the Jets will no longer be fighting for the playoffs at Christmas and Rodgers will concentrate fully on the coming season.
