Aaron Rodgers: new contract – New York Jets ‘in a really good position’

Aaron Rodgers will play in 2023 for the minimum salary of $1.165 million. But his contract is expected to be restructured, and the New York Jets consider themselves in a “really good position. “

The successful trade of Aaron Rodgers has already brought a lot to the New York Jets. Lots of headlines, for example. Lots of primetime games too, after all, there are five in the Regular Season.

And there was also a surprise. Because the quarterback superstar plays in 2023 for the minimum salary of 1.165 million dollars.

Aaron Rodgers: option bonus deferred

Because Rodgers and the Packers were still working on the contract before the trade was finalized, and in the process, the fully guaranteed option bonus was postponed until 2024. And that’s worth $58.3 million, after all.

“We knew at the end of the trade that Aaron and Green Bay had to work some things out,” Jets GM Joe Douglas said on “ProFootballTalk. “We didn’t know the exact implications. It was just important to us that the cap number not get higher than it was at the time we agreed to it.”

But the Jets didn’t know it would go down that far, either. The catch: the full financial broadside comes in 2024, when the 39-year-old’s bottom line is 107.55 million.

Aaron Rodgers: hint at the future?

That’s why the Jets are now negotiating with Rodgers, as the contract is set to be restructured. There are no results yet. The latest word was that a new working paper could be finalized by training camp.

“We’re still working on restructuring the contract, but we feel like we’re in a really good position,” Douglas said.

What’s interesting here is that the outcome of the negotiations could be an indication of how Rodgers sees his future, whether he’ll still be on the pitch in 2024. “I’m just focusing on this season for now,” Rodgers stressed during his introduction.
