San Francisco 49ers likely to lose draft pick due to payroll error

The San Francisco 49ers are likely to be penalized by the NFL for errors in the 2022 payroll with the loss of a draft pick. The franchise has apparently accepted the punishment

The San Francisco 49ers will lose their fifth-round pick in the 2025 draft. In addition, the fourth-round pick in this year’s draft, originally number 131, will be moved to the end of the fourth round and move to the 135th spot. This is reported by NFL insider Tom Pelissero.

The reason for the move is due to payroll errors that were discovered during a league audit at the end of the 2022 season. According to Pelissero, this led to a “misrepresentation of the team’s cumulative player salaries”.

However, the NFL had concluded that the team would have remained under the salary cap at all times regardless of the error and that there was no intention to exceed the cap.

The 49ers have apparently already accepted the penalty. “We take responsibility and accept the discipline imposed by the NFL due to a payroll error. At no time did we mislead or otherwise deceive the league or gain a competitive advantage in connection with the payroll error,” “ESPN” quotes from a statement.

San Francisco has ten picks in the upcoming 2024 draft, which will take place April 25-25 in Detroit.
