The Super Bowl champions are outfitting the Pro Bowler with a five-year contract that will make him the NFL’s highest-paid defensive tackle.
According to Adam Schefter and several other NFL insiders, the reigning Super Bowl champions and the defensive tackle have agreed on a new five-year contract.
And the figures in this contract are quite something. Jones will collect 95 million dollars guaranteed over the first three years, and when the final details of the new working paper are finalized, the 29-year-old will become the NFL’s highest-paid defensive tackle.
Jones’ average salary per season will be just over Aaron Donald’s (Los Angeles Rams) $31.6 million.

Jones went on strike last summer
The contract extension was preceded by tough negotiations that dragged on throughout the season. Last summer, Jones went on strike the entire offseason program and even the season opener against the Detroit Lions.
After signing an improved one-year deal, the defensive tackle finally ended the holdout, but continued to insist on a well-paid long-term contract.
Even before the Super Bowl win against the San Francisco 49ers, the five-time Pro Bowler had said that this might be his last game for the Chiefs.
Now it is clear that the three-time Super Bowl winner will remain a central part of the Chiefs defense for years to come. Last season, he played a big part in the franchise’s success with 10.5 sacks and was selected to the All-Pro First Team.
