The Detroit Lions’ exit from the championship game was dramatic. Amon-Ra St. Brown immediately turned his attention to the future
Amon-Ra St. Brown wasn’t going to let the defeat go away.
The Detroit Lions’ loss in the championship game to the San Francisco 49ers was bitter enough. The Lions’ wide receiver wanted to at least spread some confidence.
Although they didn’t make it to the Super Bowl for the first time this year, the coming season could be a new opportunity.
“We’re hungry, we’ll be ready,” promised the German-American with a view to next season. “We have a lot of good players and the right coaches to be back here next year,” said St. Brown.
Nevertheless, the Lions will not be able to put the 31:34 loss behind them any time soon. The Lions lost after leading 14-0 and 24-7, and coach Dan Campbell made two blunders when he missed field goal attempts.
Detroit threw away a huge opportunity to reach the NFL finals for the first time. “We came a long way, but it wasn’t enough,” said St. Brown, who can look back on an outstanding season himself.
Amon-Ra St. Brown: Strong numbers
He totaled 1,515 yards and ten touchdowns on 119 receptions. In the playoffs, he added another 274 yards and a touchdown in three games. He didn’t make the Pro Bowl, but he did make the All-Pro team.
He was an important part of the Lions’ historic season, as the chronically unsuccessful franchise made the playoffs for the first time since the 2016/17 season and also claimed their first postseason win in 32 years.
However, St. Brown is holding the entire team to account.
“We have to show more, we have to be better,” demanded the 24-year-old. “But it will be tough, tougher than this year. We are hungry. I have the feeling that the teams will pay more attention to us next year and take us more seriously. They’ll see us and realize that it’s a different Lions than the years before. But we’ll do even more and get even better. Whatever it takes to get to the Super Bowl: Going into the playoffs as the No. 1 seed or earning home-field advantage. “
