Emmanuel Acho pleads for Cam Newton to take back his respect in the NFL and finds that his low contract reflects his current status.
Cam Newton’s contract situation with the New England Patriots is causing controversy in the NFL. The franchise around Head Coach Bill Belichick had provided the Free Agent with a minimum contract last week.
After the departure of star quarterback Tom Brady to Tampa Bay, Newton will have to compete with Jarett Stidham for a starting place from now on. According to Für NFL talk show host and former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho, the 31-year-old is under enormous pressure.
Acho: “In the NFL respect and money are synonymous”
“Cam must first earn his respect again. Let me explain why. In the NFL, respect and money are the same thing. So if you don’t have a big contract, you don’t get respect. In the NFL, money is the biggest language of love. So, Cam, if they don’t pay you, they don’t love you, and if they don’t love you, they don’t respect you,” says Acho.
The former linebacker for the Cleveland Browns and the Philadelphia Eagles added that Newton will have to prove his critics wrong if he gets the chance to play this season.

“Respect for Cam has been lost. We just need to look at his paycheck. Of the 32 franchises in the NFL, only one team wanted Cam Newton in the way he wanted to be wanted, where he could compete as a starter,” Acho said.
Ex-Panthers star Newton signed a one-year contract with the Patriots for $1.75 million, which could rise to $7.5 million over the season through performance-based bonuses.
