Jakob Johnson returns to the big NFL stage. The Las Vegas Raiders have called up the German fullback to the squad for the game against the Minnesota Vinkings.
Jakob Johnson is about to return to the NFL stage. The German fullback, who is currently on the Las Vegas Raiders’ practice squad, has been called up to the active squad by his team for Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings.
It is the next turnaround for the 28-year-old, who has had a turbulent few weeks. Johnson had only been sacked by the Raiders in mid-November after head coach Josh McDaniels had also been shown the door a few days earlier.
McDaniels was considered the driving force behind the signing of the Stuttgart native for the 2022 season, and the two had previously worked together at the New England Patriots.
Just four days after his release, Johnson was brought back by the Raiders and given a contract for the practice squad. From this, individual call-ups to the active squad are possible.
Johnson joined the NFL in 2019 via the International Player Pathway Program. Since then, he has played 62 games in the best football league in the world, with his first and only touchdown to date coming in week two of the 2020 season with the Patriots against the Seattle Seahawks.
