Aaron Jones of the Green Bay Packers ran into the Denver Broncos on game seven with a Germany flag on his helmet. In fact, the running back has a special history with Germany.
The picture the Green Bay Packers posted on their social media channels Sunday night German time caused some confusion.
It showed a row of helmets in the Packers’ typical yellow and green design, with another national flag pasted on top of the U.S. flag.
Among them was Aaron Jones’ helmet, which had a Germany flag on it.
“Is Aaron Jones from Germany?” asked both American and German followers of the franchise from Wisonsin.
Aaron Jones lived in Heidelberg
In fact, it’s not particularly well known that the running back with the signature sombrero lived in Germany for a while.
Jones’ parents served in the U.S. Army and were stationed in various locations around the world.
At the age of two, Jones, now 28, came to Germany with his parents and siblings and spent three years in Heidelberg.
Jones and his twin brother Alvin attended a German daycare center at the time. Despite their young age, the twins learned the German language well enough there to translate for their mother while shopping at the supermarket, according to “ESPN.”
And apparently Aaron Jones hasn’t forgotten his time in Germany either, as evidenced by the German flag on his helmet.
