New York Giants: Evan Neal insults own fans as “burger fryers” and rows back

Giants tackle Evan Neal verbally attacked his own fans in an interview. Shortly thereafter, the offensive lineman apologized.

New York Giants fans were less than pleased during and after their team’s 24-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, boos could be heard at MetLife Stadium. The chants were probably also directed at the offensive line, which allowed a total of eleven sacks on quarterback Daniel Jones.

Right tackle Evan Neal, who has not had a particularly good season so far, gestured to his own fans to boo even louder during the halftime break and confirmed this in an interview with “NJ Advance Media” on Wednesday. He also referred to Giants supporters as “fair-weather fans” and “hangers-on” before being even more explicit.

“Why should a lion care about the opinion of a sheep? What is the person doing commenting on my performance? Frying hot dogs and hamburgers somewhere?” the 23-year-old is quoted as saying. On his “X” account, the starter has now rowed back and apologised for his verbal lapse.

“It was wrong of me to attack the fans who are as passionate and frustrated as I am. I let my frustration with my game and wanting to win get the better of me. I had no right to take anyone’s job lightly and I deeply regret what I said,” Neal wrote.

Currently, the Giants stand at a record of 1-3, only managing a narrow win in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals. The upcoming tasks will definitely not be any easier – on Sunday they will face the Miami Dolphins at 7 p.m. and a week later they will face the Buffalo Bills.
