David Bada is under contract with the Washington Commanders. However, the German NFL star is out for a long time with an injury. Now the D-lineman speaks for the first time about his serious setback.
David Bada is one of the few German professionals in the NFL. The defensive tackle is currently under contract with the Washington Commanders.
However, the 28-year-old cannot help his team at the moment, because Bada tore his triceps a few weeks ago and was placed on the Injured Reserve List by the Commanders at the beginning of August.
Now, the Munich native spoke on the podcast “ENDZN – The DAZN NFL Talk” about his serious injury and about his franchise. Bada is still in rehab and will miss the Commanders for a long time.
Bada explained in the podcast how serious the injury really is. “It’s already a serious injury to the muscle,” he explained. “Especially as a D-lineman, you need the triceps. That’s very important.” That’s the one he tore, he said, and that “takes time to heal. “
The preparation, which had actually been positive for him for a long time, was overshadowed by this bad news. But Bada will not be abandoned by his team despite the injury, he stressed.
“The officials have said, ‘Hey, we like you. We want you to stay here.’ That’s why I’m doing my rehab there. I can go to meetings and stuff,” Bada said. “That helps me a lot mentally that I can be there with the guys, suffer along and be at the games. “
NFL: David Bada enjoys high standing
Generally, the Munich native seems to have a high standing with the Commanders. “The coaches have told me what progress I have made. And they’re very happy that I’m here, how much I’ve learned over the years and how much effort I show.”
The D-lineman has been under contract in Washington since 2020. In that time, a lot has happened with the Commanders. First and foremost, the sale of the franchise has been the big topic of conversation – and it hasn’t been lost on Bada.
“For the last three years, when I’ve been in the barbershop, I’ve had to listen to what ownership is doing. I said I’m honest, they’re sitting up there, I’m down there on the pitch, what they’re doing up there, I don’t know,” says Bada.
Washington Commanders after sale: “Everything is different “
However, things have improved with the new owners – or maybe not, as the German NFL star explains.
“With the change, things have become different. At training camp, stands were built for the fans, something we didn’t have the last three years. It’s always packed. On weekends, there are 10,000 people there watching us train,” says Bada, pointing out the negative side of it. “It’s just a normal training session. You don’t even get into the dressing room because of all the autographs.”
In his time with the Commanders, of course, Bada has witnessed a quarterback or two. Taylor Heinicke, Carson Wentz, Ryan Fitzpatrick. Those are just a few names.
Now Sam Howell is leading the way for the Commanders. Coach Ron Rivera confirmed that Howell would enter the season as the starting QB. If Bada has his way, the right choice. The German has nothing but praise for the signal caller.
“Sam’s one that’s very underrated,” Bada says of his teammate. “He’s quite comfortable with that right now though. He’s totally unassuming, a quiet guy. He’ll come up to you, chat with you for ten minutes and then he’ll go out on the football field, kind of flip a switch and be all focused on football.”
Apparently, many could only dream of the passes Howell throws. According to Bada, Howell throws “really rad passes in practice”, of which the German is “highly impressed”. “He’ll show you this year, he’s a really good and talented player. “
