The Seattle Seahawks have just extended Geno Smith. In an interview, Head Coach Pete Carroll still shows an open mind about drafting a quarterback.
Although the Seattle Seahawks just extended Geno Smith, head coach Pete Carroll still won’t rule out drafting a quarterback in the draft.
In an interview with “Seattle Sports 710 AM”, the 71-year-old said that any competition would not be a problem for Smith: “No matter what we do, he’ll take it. He’s not going to worry about anybody.”
With Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud almost certain to be drafted in the top four already, the Seahawks could be counting on Will Levis or Anthony Richardson.
Seattle owes its early selection right to the trade of Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos and their disastrous season.
New three-year deal for Geno Smith
Carroll was also pleased with the extension with quarterback Smith in the interview. “It’s a good contract for the club, a really good message to everybody that this is a good place and things are going in the right direction.”
The extension is for three years and a total of $105 million. However, “only” $75 million is guaranteed.
That brings the playmaker’s base salary to an average of $25 million, putting Smith in the top ten quarterbacks in that category.
The 32-year-old was named “Comeback Player of the Year” last season.
Geno Smith drafted by the Jets in 2013
He was drafted by the New York Jets in 2013 but couldn’t stick there, last season he started for the Seahawks and even had the best passing percentage in the NFL.
