The Kansas City Chiefs will come to Germany as Super Bowl champions. A few weeks ago, the Chiefs were already confirmed as one of the two teams, along with the New England Patriots, that will play a home game in the Federal Republic in the coming season.
The 38:35 victory of the Kansas City Chiefs over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII should not only have led to jubilation in Kansas City. In Germany, NFL fans can rejoice twice over.
As was announced a few weeks ago, the Chiefs are one of the “designated teams” that will play in Germany next season.
Alexander Steinforth, Managing Director NFL Germany, said: “We congratulate the Kansas City Chiefs on their Super Bowl victory and we are already looking forward to welcoming the team to Germany this year. The Chiefs have a huge fan base here in Germany and they can expect excellent sport at the Germany Game.”
Kansas City Chiefs: First time Super Bowl champion plays outside the USA
It will be the first time the reigning Super Bowl champions will play a regular-season game outside the USA.
The New England Patriots have already been announced as the second team to play in Germany.
Last season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicked things off with their home game against the Seattle Seahawks (21:16) in Munich’s Allianz Arena.
Since the expansion of the NFL schedule two years ago, up to four teams from the Conference whose teams play a ninth regular-season home game are to play an International Game on neutral ground
