Damar Hamlin: NFLPA medical director ‘guarantees’ football return.

Good news for Damar Hamlin. The medical director of the NFL players’ union (NFLPA) sees no problem with a return of the safety to the field. Hamlin also received an award for his community involvement.

About a month after his cardiac arrest, Damar Hamlin is making a public appearance again. NFL players’ union (NFLPA) medical director Dr Thom Mayer is now confident the Buffalo Bills safety will return.

Speaking on a radio programme on the SiriusXM station on Wednesday, Mayer said, “I guarantee you that Damar Hamlin will play professional football again.”

Hamlin had collapsed on January third during the game between the Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals.

After days in intensive care, he was able to be released home.

Hamlin gets award

On Wednesday, Hamlin also received the NFLPA’s Alan Page Community Award. The award honours social involvement by players.

The 24-year-old accepted the award personally. In his speech, he thanked his father, among others, and talked about his charitable streak: “Giving back to the community has always been a part of me.”

In the days following Hamlin’s collapse, fans had donated over nine million US dollars to his “Chasing M’s Foundation. “
