Washington – Damar Hamlin has spoken out for the first time some four weeks after his cardiac arrest, expressing his gratitude to all supporters.
“I can’t tell you how grateful I am for all the love and support that has been shown to me,” the 24-year-old said in an Instagram video: “It’s blown me away. I have no words for it.”
Defensive end Hamlin had caused a shock in the US professional NFL league when he suffered cardiac arrest in his Buffalo Bills’ main round game at the Cincinnati Bengals on January 2 and had to be resuscitated on the field.

“It was important for me to wait for the right time to make a statement,” expressed Hamlin, who says he continues to make great strides in his recovery. “It was just a lot to process – mentally, physically, even spiritually.”

The Bills fell to Cincinnati in the quarterfinals of the playoffs last Sunday.
Before the game, Hamlin, who had spent a total of nine days in two hospitals, had visited his teammates in the dressing room.
