There are once again numerous rumours surrounding the future of Aaron Rodgers. The 39-year-old has now spoken out about it on the “Pat McAfee Show”
The future of Aaron Rodgers is once again a storyline in the NFL offseason. What will the quarterback superstar be doing in 2023?
The mechanics of the business are working as usual: speculation is already rife. NFL insider Adam Schefter reports that the Packers are “considering” trade talks with teams from the AFC. According to Peter King of “NBC Sports,” the franchise is demanding at least two first-round picks in a trade for the star quarterback.
Aaron Rodgers: “All conjecture “
And what does Rodgers himself say?
He was a guest of mate Pat McAfee on his eponymous show on Tuesday. “All the ideas about trades and stuff are just conjecture before I’ve even decided what I want to do in the future,” he said on the show.
One thing is certain: If he returns to the Packers, his contract will likely be restructured. He would otherwise collect around $60 million. “There would definitely have to be some changes,” Rodgers said. “There would have to be some adjustments.”
But he also realises it’s not a one-sided deal and that the Packers could plan without him. So it’s also possible the Packers are counting on previous backup Jordan Love, whom they finally drafted in the first round in 2020, to one day replace Rodgers.
Aaron Rodgers: trade may be coming
“I understand that I may have to be open to the possibility of playing somewhere else if I want to keep playing. I understand that the Packers may want to rejuvenate at different positions,” Rodgers said.
It’s been a lot of fun dreaming about retiring as a Packer, Rodgers said, “because that’s something very special. But when it’s time to move on, I hope everyone looks at it with great gratitude. “
