The San Francisco 49ers have reached the semi-finals of the NFL play-offs. The team around quarterback Brock Purdy won 19:12 against the Dallas Cowboys and will now play the Philadelphia Eagles for a place in the Super Bowl. The Californians also ended the hopes of the Cowboys around quarterback Dak Prescott for a Super Bowl return after 27 years.
In a game dominated by the defence, Purdy passed for 214 yards and remained without a touchdown pass. The 23-year-old is being dubbed “Mr Irrelevant” as the last pick in last year’s US Football Pro League draft and had made his NFL debut with the 49ers just over three months ago due to injury concerns.
“He’s playing at a high level,” teammate George Kittle said of his quarterback after the game. “He’s giving our best players the ball,” Purdy was “just doing a great job. “
