After Derek Carr was demoted by the Las Vegas Raiders, rumours surfaced that Davante Adams wants to leave the club again. The receiver denied that on Wednesday – but is still making a request of the Raiders.
It was a bang for the buck in Las Vegas last week.
Derek Carr was removed from the starting quarterback position and has left the team. His time with the Raiders is de facto over. So where does Davante Adams go from here? After all, the star receiver only went to the Raiders because of his former college quarterback at Fresno State.
Adams clarifies: “Raiders were always my dream “
Adams clearly denied rumours of a departure due to Carr’s demotion in a media roundtable on Wednesday. “I think it’s clear that Derek is my friend and I support him. But it’s always been my dream to play for the Raiders before,” Adams explained.
A self-confessed Raiders fan, the receiver grew up in California, where the Raiders were based in Oakland for a long time.
However, he also admitted, “I probably wouldn’t have ended up here if Derek hadn’t been here too, that’s true.”
New Raiders QB? Adams wants a say
Who will be the Raiders’ quarterback in 2023 is still up in the air. Jarrett Stidham, who will play against the San Francisco 49ers and in Week 18 against the Kansas City Chiefs, is a free agent after this year.
Adams, meanwhile, wants a small say in the search for the incoming playmaker. “They don’t have to do it, I’m not part of the front office after all,” Adams said. “But they know the reason I’m here. The upcoming move is going to be very significant for me and my career as well. In the end, we all want one thing: a Super Bowl ring.”
As of now, several quarterbacks will become free agents next March, including Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo.
