Los Angeles Chargers defeat Indianapolis Colts to make playoffs

After a four-year absence, the Los Angeles Chargers qualify for the playoffs again. With the success against the Indianapolis Colts, the Chargers are no longer in the running for a Wild Card. Nick Foles has a horror night in his comeback as a starter.

The Los Angeles Chargers are back in the playoffs.

The Chargers won their away game at the Indianapolis Colts 20-3 to secure a playoff spot in the competitive AFC. After 15 games, the Chargers now have nine wins and six losses. For Justin Herbert, this is his first trip to the playoffs.

For the Colts, the slide continues. Under interim coach Jeff Saturday, the Colts have now lost five of their six games, with the only win coming in his debut against the Las Vegas Raiders. Indianapolis stands at a record of 4-10-1.

Horror night for Foles

In his first start in over a year – last time out for the Chicago Bears – Nick Foles had a more than used evening. Only 17 of 29 balls found their target, Foles only managed to gain 143 yards, three interceptions and seven sacks. The Colts already had no chance of making the playoffs before the game.

However, Herbert did not have a brilliant day either. Although he completed 24 of his 31 balls for 235 yards, he also threw an interception for no touchdown.

The star of the game was once again running back Austin Ekeler. In addition to his 67 rushing yards, he shined with two touchdowns and his 100th catch this season. He is only the fifth running back after Christian McCaffrey, Matt Forte, LaDainian Tomlinson and Larry Centers to achieve this.

The unattractive highlight of the evening was provided by star safety Derwin James. He was sent off after an unnecessary hit on Colts receiver Ashton Dulin.

Next week, the Chargers will face the LA Rams in an intra-city duel, while the Colts travel to the New York Giants in the Meadowlands.
