After facing repeated criticism from the press over the season about the strength of his throwing arm, the Miami Dolphins quarterback reacted smugly at a press conference.

Ahead of this season’s Week 9 clash against the Chicago Bears, Tua responded to a question about which area he’s improved the most so far by saying, “I think I’ve improved quite a bit in terms of throwing deep balls, don’t you think?”

With his confident response, Tua is probably also trying to silence his critics.

In the past, he didn’t pay much attention to the opinions of outsiders – this is different now, the 25-year-old continued at the press conference.

Miami Dolphins: Tua explains plan for season

Even as he prepares for the season, the Dolphins quarterback has his sights set high – and he wants the best possible outcome.

“I think especially in OTA’s and training camp we were able to see the potential we have as a team offensively and defensively – we’re not afraid to talk about the Super Bowl either,” Tua explains of his plan for this season.

The Hawaiian certainly has the necessary weapons to do so: among others, wide receiver Tyreek Hill joined the Dolphins.

“We’re also not afraid to openly say we want to get into a playoff game and hopefully win that,” the playmaker said.

Miami Dolphins on track for playoffs

While the Super Bowl still seems a long way off at the halfway point of the season, the “Phins” can already lay the foundation for the playoffs.

After eight games, the Dolphins are third in the AFC East and stand at five wins and three losses. In the division, the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets are currently two teams better – and yet Tua and Co. remain in the race for a playoff spot with their positive record.

But to do that, they need to keep winning. In Week 9, the Dolphins will face the Chicago Bears.
