2021 Britt Reid crashed a car under the influence of alcohol, seriously injuring a little girl among others. Now he pleaded guilty.

Munich – Britt Reid has had a long prison sentence lessened a bit – the former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach pleaded guilty Monday to causing a drunk driving car accident.

The crash on an on-ramp to a Kansas City motorway in February 2021 seriously injured a then-five-year-old girl who was in a car that was hit by the assistant coach’s car. The girl suffered a traumatic brain injury. A total of six people were injured, including Reid.

Reid was due to go on trial on 26 September, but has now pre-empted the trial by confessing. If convicted, the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid would have faced up to seven years in prison, but now he faces up to four years.

During questioning in court, the judge in charge, Charles McKenzie, even held out the prospect of possible parole for Reid if he showed good behaviour in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for 28 October.

Reid, whose contract with the Chiefs expired at the end of the 2020 season and was not renewed, had originally pleaded not guilty. “I really regret what I did,” Reid said. “I made a big mistake. I apologise to the family. I didn’t mean to hurt anybody.”

Little Ariel’s family disagrees with the plea deal, attorney Tom Porto said.

“The five victims of this crime are outraged that the prosecutor is not seeking the maximum sentence allowed by law,” Porto said. “The defendant is a convicted felon whose actions resulted in a 5-year-old girl being in a coma and three other people being seriously injured. “

Help from Kansas City Chiefs

It was revealed last November that the girl was receiving financial assistance from the Kansas City franchise. However, no details were given.
