From 2023 there could be an NFL game on “Black Friday”. Amazon Prime Video” is said to have positioned itself as a broadcast partner
Munich – The NFL is planning to “expand” the Thanksgiving weekend.
According to John Ourand of the “Sports Business Journal”, there should be a regular game on “Black Friday” from the 2023 season onwards, but at the latest from 2024. This traditionally follows Thanksgiving Thursday in the USA.
The game is to be broadcast by Amazon Prime Video. The streaming service already holds the rights for the Thursday Night Football games, but the package does not include the duels on Thanksgiving. These are to continue to be broadcast by “Fox”, “CBS” and “NBC”.
Kickoff probably in the afternoon
The game will likely be in the afternoon because of an anti-trust ruling in November that prevents the NFL from broadcasting prime time games on Friday nights.
Amazon” will have to put around 70 to 100 million US dollars on the table for the broadcast right of the game, according to the report. The reports have not yet been confirmed by either the NFL or “Amazon”.
