Jimmy Garoppolo is apparently on the NFL’s trade block, but interest in the 30-year-old is not exactly high. However, the Seattle Seahawks have reportedly discussed internally whether a signing would make sense

Munich/Seattle – After the departure of Russell Wilson, a new era has dawned on the West Coast for the Seattle Seahawks.

In training camp, Drew Lock and Geno Smith will battle for the starting quarterback job. But Seahawks officials may have been considering another option – Jimmy Garoppolo.

Multiple reasons for no offer

At least if you believe a report from “ESPN”. According to this report, the Seahawks are said to have seen Garoppolo as the best alternative to Wilson.

However, there were probably several reasons that spoke against an offer to sign Garoppolo. For one thing, “Jimmy G” has proven to be injury-prone in his career so far. He is currently recovering from shoulder surgery and would not have been available to Seattle in mini-camp.

In addition, the Seahawks did not want to free up cap space for their division rivals. That’s because the 49ers only have less than five million dollars of that left, and extensions with stars like Deebo Samuel and Nick Bosa are still pending.

Garoppolo’s base salary is $24.2 million in 2022. In a trade, Seattle would have had to match that contract.

Garoppolo is expected to be ready for training camp, which begins in late July. However, the Seahawks have already committed to their quarterback duo with Lock and Smith.
