NFL: Damien Wilson of the Carolina Panthers arrested for assault

Damien Wilson, linebacker of the Carolina Panthers, has been arrested in Texas on suspicion of assault, according to the “Dallas Morning News”. The background is said to be a conflict with an ex-girlfriend of the NFL professional.

Munich/Texas – Bad news for the Carolina Panthers and their new linebacker Damien Wilson. According to a report by the “Dallas Morning News”, the 28-year-old was arrested in Texas after an ex-girlfriend of his allegedly testified that he had threatened to kill her. According to ESPN, Wilson is now facing assault charges.

Wilson’s lawyer Toby Shook, however, vigorously denied the allegations: “Damien Wilson did not commit assault. We look forward to the facts coming to light so his name can be cleared.

Panthers do not comment

Wilson’s ex-girlfriend allegedly claimed that the linebacker drunkenly threatened her after their relationship ended and also destroyed her laptop. In addition, he allegedly tried to hit her with his car, as the “Dallas Morning News” further reports.

The Carolina Panthers announced that they had learned of Wilson’s arrest but would have no comment.

Damien Wilson was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 2015 and has since gone on to play for the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars. In the offseason, the 28-year-old signed a two-year contract with the Panthers worth around 6.9 million US dollars.

He collected three sacks and 59 solo tackles for the Jaguars this past season.
