Kyler Murray and Arizona Cardinals face split – Franchise speaks out

Big trouble is brewing between quarterback Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals. Is there a threat of a split in the offseason?

Munich/Glendale – It had already been hinted a few days ago that there could be disagreements between Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals.

The number 1 pick of 2019 had deleted all pictures on his Instagram profile that linked him to the Cardinals. All that remained was a photo of him at the Pro Bowl and wearing a jersey of the Oklahoma Sooners, his college team.

Murray feels like a scapegoat

So it’s slowly crystallizing what’s behind this action. According to Chris Mortensen of “ESPN,” the quarterback is indeed uncomfortable with the Cardinals

“The strange vibe between the Cardinals and Kyler Murray is indeed alarming,” he wrote on Twitter. “Murray is described as self-centered, immature and finger-pointing, according to sources. Murray is frustrated with the franchise and was embarrassed by the playoff loss to the Rams. He believes he’s being made a scapegoat. “

Strong season, weak playoffs

Murray played a strong season with 3787 passing yards in just 14 games, completing 69.23 percent of his passes, throwing 24 touchdown passes to ten interceptions and also getting into the end zone five times himself.

In the playoff game against the Rams, however, he had an off day, throwing for only 137 yards, no touchdown passes and two interceptions.

Murray is probably not a free agent until 2024

Murray is entering his fourth and final year of his contract with the Cardinals. However, the Cardinals have the option of tying him up for another year with a “Fifth Year Option”. This means that Murray would not have his future completely in his own hands until 2024. A possible dispute between Murray and the Cardinals could therefore become complicated.

The Arizona Cardinals have already spoken out. In a statement to “ProFootball Talk” they said: “Our opinion and high regard for Kyler Murray has not changed. We as a team and Kyler himself have improved every year he has been in the league. We look forward to continuing that improvement in 2022 and look forward to Kyler Murray being the quarterback that leads us.”

Whether he really will be, or wants to be, the coming months will tell.
