After quarterback failures: Saints may have wanted Brees comeback

The New Orleans Saints will be without quarterbacks Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian for Monday’s game against the Miami Dolphins. Rookie Ian Book is expected to start. The Saints left no stone unturned – and rang through on Drew Brees beforehand.

Munich – Head coach Sean Payton will have to prepare his fourth quarterback for a starting job this year on Game Day 16. Rookie quarterback Ian Book is expected to lead the team against the Miami Dolphins after Taysom Hill and Trevor Siemian were placed on the COVID reserve list.

The Saints turned over every stone in their search for solutions. According to Saints insider Jeff Duncan, the Saints reached out to Drew Brees this week. The quarterback legend ended his decorated career last season and currently works as a TV pundit.

However, Duncan said he ruled out a return to the Saints because he’s not “100 percent sure he can elevate the offense to the level it needs to be.” Saints insider Nick Underhill wrote on Twitter that Brees also sent a photo of himself playing golf. He deleted the tweet some time later.

Philip Rivers and Josh McCown were also in talks, according to Duncan. As of today, fourth-round pick Ian Book will start in the Monday Night Game.

The 23-year-old completed nine of 16 passes for 126 passing yards in the preseason. He also made one interception.
