Atlanta Falcons to use pocket knife Cordarrelle Patterson on defence

Cordarrelle Patterson has proven to be an unexpected pocket knife on offence for the Atlanta Falcons. Now he’s even expected to get more frequent snaps on defense.

Munich – Actually, Saints quarterback Taysom Hill already holds the nickname of the “Swiss Army knife” in the NFL. Cordarrelle Patterson, however, could just as easily carry that title.

The all-purpose weapon of the Atlanta Falcons is listed as a wide receiver, running back and returner and has four rushing and five receiving touchdowns with 900 scrimmage yards this season.

While Hill also has rushing and receiving duties as a quarterback, Patterson now wants to add even more.

According to “NBC Sports”, he asked to play snaps on defence during the current season. His big goal is to catch an interception.

A wish that Head Coach Artur Smith took into account on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars – the 30-year-old was actually allowed to be on the field for a snap with the defence.

Atlanta Falcons: Cordarrelle Patterson on the Defense’s Depth Chart

In doing so, he reportedly did his job well enough to face the prospect of more assignments on the unfamiliar side of the line of scrimmage. “He got his snap. Maybe I’ll put him at free safety on the Depth Chart,” Smith announced after the game.

No sooner said than done: on the Falcons’ Depth Chart, which can be viewed on the official homepage, Patterson showed up behind Erik Harris and Jaylinn Hawkins at safety on Wednesday.

Although regular assignments at the new position are highly unlikely, defensive coordinator Dean Pees confirmed that there were definitely packages that would include Patterson. However, he would hope not to have to use them.

In an emergency, however, the Falcons can be aware: The Swiss Army Knife is at the ready.
