The City of St. Louis and the Rams’ franchise, now based in Los Angeles, have settled their lawsuit over the football team’s relocation out of court. A large nine-figure sum will be due in the process.

Munich/St. Louis – The city of St. Louis announced Wednesday night that the municipality’s legal dispute with the now Los Angeles Rams franchise will be settled. St. Louis will receive $790 million in an out-of-court settlement.

The city originally sued in 2017 over the contents of the 29-page push by Rams owner Stan Kroenke, who said he was unhappy with the St. Louis market.

“Full settlement” of charges

St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones said in a statement, “This historic settlement closes a long chapter for our region that secures hundreds of millions of dollars for our communities and avoids a long process of uncertainty.”

The $790 million will reportedly be paid in large part by Kroenke, with the NFL itself and the remaining team owners also picking up a portion.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy let slip in a statement, “The NFL, the city and greater St. Louis area, and the ‘Sports Complex Authority’ have fully settled the lawsuit. We thank all parties for their efforts in achieving this goal. “

NFL team in St. Louis off the table for now

Part of the charge was also the city’s demand of an NFL team in St. Louis. A new stadium complex in the metropolitan area was planned for this, which would have cost around one billion dollars.

The Rams played in the state of Missouri from 1995 to 2016; they were already based in Los Angeles before that.
