NFL star Michael Strahan flies into space on Jeff Bezos rocket

Jeff Bezos may soon welcome another celebrity guest on his spaceship: ex-NFL star Michael Strahan wants to take part in the Amazon founder’s space programme and fly into space.

Munich – Michael Strahan is a Super Bowl champion, Hall-of-Fame member, Emmy Award winner. And soon to be an astronaut.

The former defensive end has announced that he will fly into space on 9 December – as part of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ “Blue Origin” spaceship programme.

The journey is expected to last eleven minutes, several of them in zero gravity. Strahan will travel at about three times the speed of sound.

Among others on board: Laura Shepard-Churchley, the eldest daughter of the first American ever to be in space, Alan Shepard. Accordingly, the name of the Bezos rocket is also: “New Shepard”.

But before going into space, the ex-NFL star has another trip coming up: On Sunday, his number 92 will be officially retired by the New York Giants in their home game against the Philadelphia Eagles at MetLife Stadium.

Strahan truly has an eventful few days ahead of him.
