NFL: Newton returns to Panthers

Quarterback Cam Newton returns to the city of his greatest successes.

Cologne (SID) – Quarterback Cam Newton is returning to the city of his greatest successes. The 32-year-old, once the most valuable player (MVP) in the NFL’s professional football league, is now back with the Carolina Panthers, whom he led to the Super Bowl in 2016. The Panthers made the announcement on Thursday.

Newton, who did not succeed superstar Tom Brady at the New England Patriots, is to replace playmaker Sam Darnold. The regular quarterback will be out for at least four weeks with a shoulder injury.

Ten years ago, the Panthers drafted Newton as the number one pick in the NFL. In nine years he played for Carolina and set several records for the franchise. In Super Bowl 50, the Panthers with MVP Newton lost to the Denver Broncos in 2016.
