The Chicago Bears miss the mega-comeback in the last quarter of the Monday Night Game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. For many fans, the referees also play a role in this, who don’t exactly shine in one curious situation in particular and spark a shitstorm on the net because of it.
Munich/Pittsburgh – After three weak quarters, it almost looks like a monster comeback for the Chicago Bears in the Monday Night Game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Bears scored a whopping 21 points in the final quarter after trailing by 14 earlier.
But in the end many questionable referee decisions also made life difficult for the Bears, so that in the end they had to admit defeat by the narrowest of margins.
“The worst taunting call of the 2021 NFL season “
However, one very specific and curious situation in particular is causing horror among fans. Bears defensive end Cassius Marsh stops Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on a crucial third down with just a few minutes left in the game and cheers inconspicuously about it.
The referees, however, punish this with a flag and “taunting” the opponent. A call that is difficult to understand for many spectators – which they announce accordingly on the net:

This was just called taunting. The officiating in the NFL continues to be a disaster. This entire game has been pathetic. pic.twitter.com/08UgyGyhJC

Seldom: NFL ref blocks Marsh with hip
But it’s not just the decision itself that seems questionable. Before referee Tony Corrente throws the flag for Taunting, he seeks contact with Marsh as he tries to run past him and blocks him with his hip. A curious scene that did not go unpunished in the net of reactions:
Tony Corrente leaned into the contact and then held his flag toss like a walk off three pointer. What a joke pic.twitter.com/MhNlNVewJx

Marsh should have flopped when the ref hit him.
Would have been legendary.Still can’t get over this though. Super sketchy. pic.twitter.com/NCHUoOdRqX

While Corrente stated after the game that he interpreted Marsh’s boos toward the Steelers bench as taunting the opponent and that the “hip contact” was not intentional and had nothing to do with the flag, the Bears players, most notably Marsh himself, fire violently toward Corrente:

Bears LB Cassius Marsh, who was called for taunting late in the 4th quarter, says he didn’t say anything towards the Steelers bench to warrant a penalty.
Also says the ref hip-checked him and if it was the other way around he would’ve been ejected. pic.twitter.com/TpSIJjH625

Marsh himself stated he said nothing in the direction of the Steelers bench, has never been penalized for anything like that, and believes he would have been kicked off the field if he hip-blocked a referee the way Corrente did to him. The net stands by him in this assessment:
NFL officiating is a joke.
